Handing in my notice

Hi,

I am handing in my notice tommorow as I have accepted a job offer with another company (unconditional). The notice that I have to serve is one month.

Does the clock start ticking on the same day that I hand my notice in or do I have to wait for confirmation of my notice before the timer starts?

Ta.

Congratulations. If you hand it in tomorrow, consider your notice to be worked by 22nd April 2012.

    Not quite right.

If the OP hands their notice in on 23 March, the month runs from 24 March and therefore ends at the close of business on Monday 23 April if that is a normal working day for them.

I've usually found my employer doesn't mind if I'm a day or 2 out, and I usually write (well I've only had to move job twice) that I am handing in my 4 weeks notice and expect to work my last shift on [Date]. That way if anything is a bit out, they can correct me if need be.
