It's definitely worth buying separates, and getting two pairs of trousers for every jacket ... Seats wear out faster than shoulders, in DH's experience!Signature removed for peace of mind0

I got my DH some excellent suits (Next) from charity shop at 50p each - you can't tell!0

Primark have a linen look summer suit for sale for silly money which actually looks good enough to wear for quite smart office wear, if you are allowed lighter colours in the summer. Otherwise I would recommend Ebay (having just bought a genuine - and DH knows about these things - new Armani suit for him there, for just over £100)
PS There is a Hong Kong tailor who regularly advertises in the Telegraph who will make made to measure suits. But why not take a cheap holiday to somewhere like Thailand to celebrate your new job and have some suits made there? It impresses your colleagues no end - as long as you are careful to find a really good tailor.

Slaters menswear are very good. Very professional in what they do - measuring you accurately for example to ensure the best fit, and prices are very reasonable considering you're buying good qualuty stuff. At the end of the day, a £50 suit looks and lasts like a £50 suit.0

Slaters are fantastic for suits,, my other half only buys from there .. they have suits for every budget .. "cheap and cheerful" to "designer £250+".. also they have a free "alteration" service .. they usually finish the alteration within the hour!... also .. we once had a pair of trousers, after a few weeks the stitching became loose ..they excanged them ..no questions asked "Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering"0
