Making Money with an Injury

Hi all, I have been lurking on the forums for many years, but never had the need to post before.

I recently lost my job following an injury to my back (I've checked, and since I was in my probation period this was quite legal).

The reason I am posting is that I need to make money, as I am not entitled to benefits.

I have strong administrative and customer service skills, and I am a bit of a creative soul.

What I am looking for is an opportunity to work from home, since I am unable to sit down, and going out of the house is now a struggle for me. So, I am looking for a job I can do lying down (besides the obvious)!

Any help or advice would be appreciated :)

Can you type lying down? - you could look at odesk or PeoplePerHour for freelance writing work.
  • Yes I can. Thanks I will have a look :)

Haven't really got any advice, but I just wanted to wish you good luck!

Only thing I could really add is to get rid of some old stuff on e-bay if you have any.

    xx
  • Thanks Gill. Unfortunately, I'd struggle to carry stuff down to the post office at the moment, but I might have to enlist the help of my already suffering boyfriend with that one :)

I knew there was a reason I should start dating again :rotfl:

How did you suffer your back injury ?. If it was as a result of an accident at work and was in the last 2 years, find yourself a good no-win no-fee lawyer.

As for other work, if you can work from a sitting position, how about looking at using an agency (or 2) to get you placed in an admin role. This gives you a chance to prove your worth with a view to a permanent job but also gives you an easy way out should the hirer prove to be useless and not the sort of company you would want to work for.
    Never Knowingly Understood.

Thanks, but I didn't injure myself at work, and I am unable to sit down :(

I know it's only a short term solution really, but when I was working full time in customer service, I still had time to spend a couple of hours a day matched betting (there is a section on the forum for it too) and earned around £100 a week for 10 weeks before not having the time anymore. I know people have made thousands, but I only did small things, as I didn't have time to get to grips with more. Still it worked out more than minimum wage and had the benefit of being tax free.

For a longer term approach, I know some doctors surgeries pay people to type up their notes from tape (are they called dictaphones?). I don't know how widespread that is, but I was offered work like this a couple of times. I'm not really sure what else.

Is this a temporary issue you have, or is it likely to be longer-lasting?
