Can I close a catalogue account with a balance?

I want to close my Simply Be account because I don't trust myself not to order more stuff I don't really need... I know that sounds like a cop out but I always manage to justify it at the time! They say I can't close it until it's paid off. Does anyone know legally if I can ask them to close the account or make it so no orders can be put on it? They're just saying they can't.
Thanks for any advice.

I'm sure you can ask them to reduce your limit.
With Littlewoods my account is in arrears.. every time I make a payment to them, my limit decreases so it's always at £0.SAVINGS: £63.86 // £3,0000 -
If you manage to get them to do that then you'll effectively be entering a repayment plan which would have a detrimental effect on your credit report - can you not just not order anything...... put any catalogues that arrive straight in the bin & don't visit their websiteGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
£1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000

You can do this with credit cards, so don't see why the catalogue shouldn't allow it? Maybe when u make a payment ask them to decrease your balance, that way you'll have nothing availablw to spend0

Read above... I don't have very good self control so am trying to do the responsible thing and remove temptation! What I will do is ask them to reduce the credit limit, it's ridiculously high at the moment. Thanks.*Insert interesting words here*0

Just chuck the catalogue in the bin and dont go on their website.
Keep paying it till its a nil balance
It really is that simple.
Take responsibility yourself instead of asking other people to be responsible for you.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I am taking responsibility - this is part of that.*Insert interesting words here*0

I don't have much experience in this, but do you have an actual card and have to give details to order? If so, could you destroy the actual card? But still pay back through a direct debit or something? I know some people put their cards in water and freeze them otherwise. Or do you think you will still find a way to spend on account? As if so, you could perhaps use overdraft money to pay off and close the account if it will cost less in interest payments on the overdraft, than the total extra you think you could potentially spend.
Oh and I just read your signature, well done on doing so well elsewhere in reducing what you owe.0
