you do not have a JC advisor when on the WP

Who is the provider?? You should ask them and mention that if you had a adviser you could have claimed ADF and see what happens. Some providers have secret funds they don't shout about. :)

They don't even like paying travel and couldn't get mine this week as they 'had no money in the tin'!

I really do not believe that is still available anyway as there is nothing on the net or DWP site about it at all

It's not acceptable for them to not pay your fares, it's up to them to ensure they have enough to cover it. Just remember they get funded to help you into work, not to cause you to be in debt. Insist on what you are entitled too, maybe they should buy themselves less bickies! As I said, if you don't ask about ADF you won't know if it's still around or not.

ADF has now been renamed Flexible Support Fund(FSF) and can be used for clothing to start work as well as interview clothes. It is paid in the form of a voucher which can be redeemed at various places, in my office we usually use Matalan as they are the cheapest. It is not available to those on the Work Programme as this is the responsiblity of the WP providers.

OP, your friend will need to contact their local JC BEFORE starting work as it can't usually be paid after starting work.

When I said I couldn't apply for jobs in business park because there was no public transport to it, and I don't drive, I got told the Job Centre would buy me a BICYCLE if I needed one. Apparently they can give discretionary amounts.

I turned down their offer, to get to the business park I would need to cycle along a dual carriageway and cross several massive roundabouts. Also no word on what to do when it's snowing or raining.

I never said I am not getting it. In fact they pay me £4.60 as they wont, wait for it pay me £2.70 which is what I want. I use an Oyster card and you can not prove you have used one on the bus till 24 hrs later as there is a capped proce for bus fares and this can't be updated till the next day. Because of this the provider wont pay me £2.70 so told me to get a paper ticket at £2.30 (each way) when I went there and going forward they will pay me £4.60 everytime I go there because they are so stupid!!

As far as ADF goes would they not just look at you and say you do not need it? I don't go around scruffy and I go everywhere dressed as if I am going to work.

As I understand it the ADF comes into place where ever there is a "barrier to work" what ever it is from getting your car fixed to travel for the first month you can apply for it.

You don't apply for it, it's not something like a social fund. The main point of it is it's under the discretion of your adviser. If you keep in contact regularly with this adviser and they know your personal circumstances, the chances of it being awarded is much higher than if you randomly go into a JCP and demand it. Most of the time, this comes about naturally in an interview but the person who has these issues must raise it (directly or not).

I can attest to this silly method of claiming back travel costs. If I was you, I'd do the ticket thing, let them bear the brunt of the extra costs. If you're on the bus discount scheme for JSA customers, you can get 50% off per ride although you have to provide two photos for the card and application form. It's something you get after 13 weeks of claiming and I think there are plans to extend this to the underground.

You might as well not bother though, if the provider insists on repaying full fare prices.

No then I will have to find £2.30 in the first place to get there and that's not that easy to be honest as sometimes I top up my card with a credit card and pay it back.

If they want to pay me 4.60 instead of 2.70 it proves just how mental the WP are!

I have however not got that half price fare thing as I never had the £5 to get the passport photos needed and the JC wouldn't pay for it.
