Really Scared

Hi all I hope someone can help me, received a letter a couple of weeks ago from equidebt on behalf of aktiv kapital i rang em and said thats not me ? and they said that they would remove my address. i haven't had any debt for over 14 years and this morning i receive a letter from them saying i owe them over £1000 and they wil be sending a doorstep agent to arrange payments, what to do should i ring em again or should i send the letter I DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ANY DEBT TO YOUR COMPANY.

  • Don't ring. Always write, preferably by recorded delivery. Tell them that you dispute the debt and ask them to provide proof that you owe the money.

    Also tell them that you will not deal with them except by post. Instruct them that any doorstep callers will be told to leave.

    The chance of them actually visiting is very slim - but it doesn't hurt to put that in your letter - if nothing else it will show them you know how to deal with them and won't be bullied.
