My partner was doing a job like this and did it for two weeks before jacking it in. Unfortunately for the company the clients really liked my partner and started ringing in protesting at the loss.
The company offered an extra 50p an hour. "No thanks" was the reply. They were taking the mick and like the op my partner had to pay fuel, no pay between jobs etc. End result was the company pretty much begged and got told "thanks but no thanks". The clients lost the best carer they'd had all because the company was so greedy it wanted to put profit before care.0 -
I did start the job doing calls by bike but live in a hilly area and ended up turning up for calls dripping sweat purple in the face and needing to sit down! We could discuss the care industry for ever - there are endless stories to tell. I just wondered about the expenses when you don't pay tax but I think I just have to write it off as a contribution to society, the work pays little financially but as the previous poster mentioned, carers and service users end up meaning a lot to each other. No one would do this work if that wasn't the case.0
