Petrol Chainsaw wanted

Instead of buying wood for our woodburning fire, it would be a good idea to buy a petrol chainsaw and utilise all the fallen trees round about, but in true MSE fashion, we want to get it at a good price! Has anyone any ideas of where you buy these and if there are bargains to be had? We are in the North West of England.

Not being funny but have you used a chainsaw before? Because they can be very lethal if not used correctly.
There are courses that you can take. That shows you how to use them properly. These will not cheap.
Also you need to think about safety equipment like a helmet combinations which has a visor and ear proctectors, boots etc and they don't come cheap.
Have a look for more info on equipment:

Also don't forget that you will need to keep the chain sharp.
I assume that the trees are on your own land. As I am not sure what the legal position when you are going on to someone elses land/ property etc to get the wood. Ok if you have permission I assume. Also as you are on other peoples property you may well need public liability insurance which is not cheap.

Thanks for your concern but my husband and son are both qualified chainsaw users; have all the equipment; we have permission to cut wood on a friend's land; are completely bona fide. All I need is a cut price place to buy a chainsaw!!!!0

I was in Aldi In Stockport on Saturday and they were selling petrol chainsaws. My o/h already has one which he paid about £200 for, and he was impressed with the Aldi one.
It was an Oregan 38cc and it cost £89.99 i think. sounds like a bargain0 -
Thanks, I will have a look at Aldi. I had no idea they sold that sort of stuff.0
