Does my Employer have to breakdown my Salary by law when asked?

Hi, I get paid a salary of just under 20k a year. It states in my contract 374.19 per week. I recently asked my boss to give me a detailed breakdown of this. he stated that he didn't have to by law. Is he right???
I work 3 different shifts (a different one each week) one of which is nights and we also self cover holidays working an extra 28days a year. I'd just like to know how much they pay me for this i.e shift allowance for nights, how much for the extra cover etc...but he won't do this. Surely this can't be lawfull??

As far as I am aware No, as long as its over NMW then he isn't doing anything illegal...
There is no legal right for extra pay for inconvenient shifts.The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

He doesn't have to break it down and you have no legal rights to shift pay or enhanced pay for holiday cover.0 -
Most salaries simply don't break down in that way, the most you can do is work out someone's daily rate.
When you are salaried the deal is you do X per week/month, your employer pays you Y per week/month. That's as far as it goes. The salary covers everything you do for your job.
Salaried jobs generally don't have allowances for different hours/overtime etc, it's all part of what you do in the course of a year, and you are paid for the years work broken down into equal lumps.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
