Has my debt gone??

Hi, Im sure someone on here will be able to answer this.
I have a few debts some of which I have received no contact to say I have to pay, for a few years. (I cant even remember how much they are for).
I had a loan a credit card and a store card when I was 18 all of which I struggled to pay back and were all passed to a collection agency.
All of these were over six years ago and I have never acknowledged any letters from them or made any payments.
(I know I am stupid for doing this but as a student I just couldnt afford it).
The letters all stated that they would take court action. If they were to do this would I have received letters to say that I now have a CCJ.
I have read on here that after six years if you have not accepted the debt or made any payments that they are written off. Is this true?? And if I receive any further letters from them is there a way I could get them off my back??

Do they appear on your credit report?:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Debts are not written off after 6years, but the do become statute barred, which means that the creditor cannot take court action (or if they did you would defend soley on the basis that the debt eas statute barred).
Essentially a debt becomes statute barred if there is a period of 6years where you pay nothing towards the debt, and don't write to the creditor or debt collector to acknowledge/admt that you owe the money - and only if they don't commence court action before that 6years is up.
The rules are different in Scotland - its only needs to be 5years.
