Barclaycard - Suspension of Interest Charges

Hello All

Has anyone had dealing with Barclaycard in respect of gaining a suspension of the interest charges? I currently have just under £3k of debt with Barclaycard spread over 2 accounts that is dealt with via my CCCS DMP, & which they continue to charge (a reduced rate of) interest on. The interest charges equate to approximately 3 months payments per year, which means my DFD remains even further away than I wish.

I wrote to Barclaycard, explaining this, pointing out the administrative costs they are incurring in extending my debt, & that all other creditors (except HSBC, but that is another story & has been resolved) had suspended all charges, & requested they match this. They basically wrote back telling me to get stuffed & they would continue to charge the interest, possibly increasing it whenever they wish.

Has anyone else had this situation? Has anyone managed to get Barclaycard to suspend the interest, or have the debt transferred to a DCA who will just want payment of the outstanding amount without charges (Lloyds TSB, who played many nasty little games with me, did this possibly in order to stop my incessant letters & threats of a FOS complaint)?

Thanks in advance

Barclaycard were one of the worst creditors on my DMP (along with Halifax).

I asked them for a copy of the CCA and it wasn't forthcoming. I therefore stopped paying completely and, after a few months, said that I would start again only on my terms. I now pay no interest and have even had interest and charges reversed.

I could just go all out and not pay the cards as they obviously haven't got a CCA but I can't be bothered with the hassle for six years - along with the nagging in my head advising that I got into this mess so should pay up. Will go for a severely reduced settlement soon though - see what they say.

You could try them with the recent(ish) case of the MBNA bloke who got a £20k debt written off where he refused to pay it as it comprised of charges and interest only. I'll see if I can find the details but MBNA contacted him so many times (he'd stopped paying completely) so he took them to court for harrasment and won. You could maybe write to them and say that once you've paid the full amount that you owe having deducted interest and charges then you'll stop paying and point them in the direction of the case,

Here's the details of the case
