Employed and self-employed. P46 form

Hello

I have just started a new job. I filled out a P46 today but wasn't sure which box to tick. My boss said I should tick the third one, which states that I have another job. This means however that I will get taxed at BR rate. I will be a non-tax payer so not keen to pay BR tax.

A previous job I worked at paid me gross as I told them I do a tax return each year. Should I have ticked the box which states this is my only job so that I don't get taxed now and then do the tax return?

confused!!! thanks

  • The "other job" box applies to another PAYE job, not self employment, so yes, for PAYE purposes this is your only 'job'.

The whole point of self employment is that it is not taxed under PAYE or Pay As You Earn.
