Selling Short Stories For Money

every magazine has its own guidelines as to what they want, if you ask they will send you a copy, but and this is a huge but, the market is very competitive and its very poorly paid for the effort you put in.
are you part of a writers/writing group? if not, join one and get feedback on your work which will be a great help - other peoples eyes pick up things you will miss'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0 -
Thank you everyone, what wonderful advice and feedback. I have come a long way since joining 2 creative writing courses and I want to continue writing. My goals at the moment are to make a bit of money publishing short stories. I have heard of amazon submissions too, I may consider that route. If I get anything published I shall have to let you all know
I then want to go on to publish at least one book (totally different type of writing). I will keep trying till I succeed in some way.

From me too!
I have been creative writing for some time, so I was really interested in seeing a way it might be possible to earn a little money from it - I need to check out theses magaines first to see what kind of work they like to publish though(I'll have to ask on Freecycle if anyone has back issues!)

Hey guys, I have subscribed to this thread because it's got some really great tips! Thanks
I thought you might be interested in this website filled with writer's resources. I stumbled across it some time ago when I needed some writers guidelines for a particular publication: http://www.jbwb.co.uk/
I'm a freelancer, and this sort of thing really helps me. Don't even try to send articles that don't fit with their style requirements as they will be spiked more or less immediately - however the good thing is that if you stick within their needs they are far more likely to give you the go-ahead. What about entering writing competitions? Quite often there are prizes for short stories, our local writing group emails round competitions taking place so might be worth you seeking out a local group?0
