Voluntary Contributions for full State Pension been wasted!!

Back in 2004 the DWP told me that I needed to pay a lump sum of £900 to buy the 3years required to bring my contribution record up to the 44 years needed to give me a full State Pension at the age of 65.

You may know that the Government recently made the decision that only 30 years of payments would qualify people to a full pension.

I asked for a refund of my wasted contributions but have been refused. In short because I did the right/moral thing and tried to look after myself I have been kicked in the teeth.

Anyone else fallen for this Government scam??

    Could be worse.

you could be one of the women who by accident of birth and short notice changes have to work an extra year or two to collect with just a few years notice.

Look on the bright side, she will live a long time to collect hopefully.

My wife was still being asked if she wanted to make this money up,even when the change had been confirmed about 2/3 years back.Fortunately we did not fall for it.

Could be even worse, you could be one of the future generation who don't get a state pension when the ponzi scheme inevitably falls.

You complied with the legislation as it was at the time. I don't see why you feel you are entitled to a refund because the rules changed some time later.

If you were working you would have to keep paying, regardless of whether you had paid your thirty years or not.

I am old enough to have needed 39 years to qualify. Should I now ask for nine year's worth of refund (especially as two of them were voluntary contributions)? No, I paid what was required of me at the time.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
