New and Scared

Hi Everyone,

Firstly thanks for taking the time to read my post :)

I am a long time lurker on this board and finally have been in contact with CCCS and I make my first payment on the 1st April, I am very happy with what has been done for me but I have received my first letter today from Aqua saying that they will not accept the offer made, and to be honest I'm scared silly....I've not even heard from the remaining 5 creditors yet....I'm hoping someone has had the same and can offer a few words of encouragement.
Thanks :)

Hello FluffyKitten, welcome to the MSE forums.

You're in good hands with the CCCS, they're a great bunch! As they are helping you via a Debt Management Plan they should be on the ball in ensuring that your creditors accept your repayment arrangements. Your creditors have an obligation to respect your wishes to use a third-party to help you with your situation.

If any of them persist in declining your offers there could be grounds for a complaint. Your creditors should treat your situation in a sympathetic and positive manner.

    Hope you get things sorted!

  • Hi, well done for taking that first big step and getting help with your debts. I'm just over halfway through my DMP with CCCS and can say they have been brilliant. The first couple of months were a bit horrible, when creditors first hear that you will be on a DMP and making reduced payments, they all want to squeeze a bit more out of you, but just be firm and tell them you can't pay what you haven't got. They helped you get into this position in the first place so don't let them make you feel bad.

I've never heard of Aqua and haven't the same experience as this though, sorry. How many creditors do you have? For me, some froze interest, others simply refused. But I love getting my monthly statement from CCCS now which shows my debt going DOWN for the first time in so many years. Best of luck with it all x

Hi FluffyKitten and welcome to the forum.

Congratulations on taking the first step, we know it can be a hard decision to make.

As other posters have suggested it can take a while for creditors to accept a DMP and in the initial period on entering the plan you may get a lot of letters from creditors, many of these are system generated.

While there is no guarantee that creditors will accept a DMP it shouldn’t make a difference to what you pay them. You can only pay what you can reasonably afford, and even if creditors do not officially accept an arrangement together we will continue to pay them the amount allocated.

If you are concerned by any of the correspondence you receive from creditors you can always give us a ring and we’ll be happy to talk through these letters.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Mat
