Can I apply for a 95% mortgage?

Can anybody help me please. I have seen contradicting reports with regards to the 95% mortgage. Would I be able to apply to say ~Nationawide or Virgin money etc for a 95% mortgage to buy a house from another person or does it only apply to new build houses in the scheme. As I said I have seen contradicting reports to do with this

Nationwide allow you to save a 5% deposit with them to enable you to purchase a property with a 95% mortgage.

The 95% mortgages that are backed by the government i believe can be new builds or existing properties - however i think they are restricted to certain properties.
Its one thing ive not had enough time to read up on properly yet, as ive not had any clients looking for one its not be a priority.

NewBuy 95% deals are selected for newbuilds only, as the developer has to pay a percentage of the purchase price into an indemnity pot to pick up the tab for others' defaults in future.

Only three lenders are involved so far, and one of them doesn't yet have a product in the "stable."
