  • Are they going to include the money spent on this scheme? You can find out already from many sources how your money is spent, don't waste more on these political exercises.

The oldest political trick in the book is making you afraid of it and telling you who's to blame for it.

Didn't they show an example on the News last night and of an average wage of £25K of that is £5000 tax per year with nearly £2000 going to benefits and of that £2000 £60 went towards unemployemt benefits?

I'd like to see the welfare bill split further. I mean does this total include items such as tax credits or child benefits? I think most people would be claiming some form of "welfare" payment if this is the case.

Good point, corky2. Anything we receive, such as child benefit and tax credits, should be taken off what they say we are paying for welfare.

The small print reveals that only those in SA or who receive a coding notice will receive a tax statement.
Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place

The tax rates are so high in this country, I think if people knew what their money was being spent on, even if it makes them angry, may be a good idea.

If people start pointing at benefit cheats or just the plain old lazy, then so much the better.

And if people think that cutting the tax rate from 50% to 45% is like giving money to the rich, they are bloody morons! What your'e really doing is TAKING less. And as someone already pointed out, the 50% tax rate probably results in less earnings through people CHOOSING to earn less.

I, for example CHOOSE not to earn anything at all because I think it is ridiculous that for every 1GBP I make (excluding my personal allowance of course) I would only take home 61p.

I'm not going to contribute a penny in income taxes while its being spent on benefit cheats :P.

And as for why I dont earn whatever is in the tax free allowance, I don't need that money so I'll let that job get filled by someone who needs it.

    That's my contribution.

Oh and yes, I think this mailing out of a breakdown of how taxes are spent is a bit of a waist of time and money. It should be published on the net, not posted to everyone!
  • Don't forget the chunk of VAT that goes to Brussels and gets spent to subsidise land owners, plus schemes to to unite the poor of the EU into the family of Europe.
    National Insurance is another tax.
Then there is all the money raised by the local council in say parking charges and parking fees, even in empty streets well after dark.
How about green taxes on power bills plus all the other stealth taxes?.
