Do you make job hunting a full time job?

I do search daily on the Job Centre and indeed.co.uk which seems to search all the websites saving you a lot of trouble, I’ve been doing this the past 3 months, and it takes all of 10 mins per day to do. I really can’t see how people make job searching a full time job unless I am doing something badly wrong. Do you spend all day searching? If so what exactly do you do? As I said previously even doing this I am averaging about 2 applications per month if even.

  • Well, I guess if you include the time it takes to fill in some application forms, that would bump it up a few hours. Maybe other people are leaving the house, walking door to door, leafleting, going to see agencies. All of that takes more than 10 minutes, so I assume you're just refering to internet searching?

I usually spend most afternoons job searching online filling in applications, researching co's etc but no It's not a full time job as a lot of jobs simply want you to submit your CV which takes seconds.

I've got a few different CV's saved on the computer and I tweak them a bit further if I feel its needed so it's very time saving.

In the days of hand written applications I could see it being a full time "job" though.

I don't let job hunting rule my life as i don't want it to be all encompassing but i do spend about say 25 hours per week applying and searching for work, i have also been out canvassing handing copies of my cv to companies.

Finding suitable roles, tweaking CV to suit, cover letter, send to agency, following up with agency, reading up about companies, refreshing your skills, etc - probably not 9-5, but I used to spend about half a day each day working through

.... No, I do a quick job search maybe once or twice a week. Takes maybe about an hour at most.

I look every day - I have several copies of my CV and will write a cover letter for each of them when I apply for a job. I use the jobcentre website and various other websites, I look on prospective employers' sites as well.

Yes, it is almost a full time job looking but I have to look and apply. Must admit that I tend to do my job searching at odd times of the day e.g. early morning, late at night. I even look at weekends.

I wouldnt let job hunting be a full time job otherwise you would end up seeing the same jobs over and over again. Few hours in the morning then do something else, a few hours in the afternoon then do something else, ahours in the evening and finish of teh day with something else. The something else could be doing some tidying up or seeing a friend, wash the car, read a book, do some diy that you have been meaning to get dome for ages.

Its easy to make it a 10 minute job if all you're doing is searching on the internet. However if you do what I did in the last two recessions which was to walk up and down industrial estates and the high streets looking for work, it takes a bit longer.

Around here many vacancies are just advertised in the window of the shop or wherever.

Pretty much those who are unemployed the longest will be those putting in the least effort like yourself.
