In need of some debt advice please?!

Current Debts!!

Fredrickson International Limited (on behalf of Vodafone)
£152.75 - accepting £5 a month

Horwich and Farley Solicitors (on behalf of Avon)
£81.62 - accepting £2 a month

PDP (on behalf of Ann Summers)
£69.01 - hounding me!!

C.A.R.S (on behalf of Three)
£91 - one letter received on 14.02.12, heard nothing more since.

Studio
£70 - keep adding lots of interest! (debt started at £30)

NDR (Littlewoods and Very)
Not sure of the current amount owing, but it is through the roof and it keeps being added to. I find NDR a very difficult company to deal with.

Any help and advice on how to deal with the above debts would be much appreciated! Ignorance is bliss - but only for a while!
Sooo many Debt Advice companys that I don't know which to go to, which is trustworthy and if they are really a help.

Thank you for reading and thank you in advance for any advice you are able to give!! x x

    Hi and welcome

If you are seeking debt advice then make sure its from one of the free providers / charities as per this list. IMPORTANT - Where to seek professional impartial advice about your debts.

I suppose the first thing to work out is how much you can afford in total to the debts each month.

To work this out we suggest using the statement of affairs calculator to work out what you have coming in and going out each month. http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html
You'll also need that information if you contact one of the debt advice charities.

If you post the result of your statement of affairs on here people should be able to offer you advice.

In terms of the best way to deal with debt collectors and NDR who you are having problems with - always deal with them only in writing never by phone. That way they cannot bully you to pay more than you can afford and you have a written copy of everything that has been said/agreed.

    Hi Tixy, thank you.

I'll take a look at that link.

I worked out exactly what I could afford to pay each month and only two companys accepted. I'll have a go using the that link though to see if I can free up any more money.

I'll definitely a write a letter to NDR, I just struggle with what to say.

Something along these lines. If there is a specific reason you cannot afford repayments,eg if you've lost your job or similar, I would put that in the letter as well.
    Dear Sir/Madam
    Re Account No/Reference No:- xxxxxxxxxx
In respect of the above account I am unable to pay the agreed monthly payments.
I am currently in a position to offer £x per month towards this debt.
The offers I have made to my creditors have worked out on a pro-rata basis, and I have written to all my creditors asking them to accept reduced payments.
If interest or other charges are being added to the account I would be grateful if you would freeze these so that all payments made will reduce what I owe you.
Should my circumstances improve I will contact you again.
I would be grateful if you would send a [paying-in book] [standing order form] to make it easier to pay you.
Thank you for your assistance. I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.
    Yours faithfully

Another template you might find usefu wit some of the debt collectors - it tells them you will only communicate in writing and that they can no longer phone you.

If any are phong regularly then you might want to send it - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=11571485&postcount=4

One final thing before you send any letters - have any of your debts had a period of 6years since you last paid them? (or 5 years if you are in Scotland).

I'll take a look at those templates now.

No, the longest a debt hasn't been paid is Littlewoods and Very - which is since May **hangs head in shame** but i'm hoping to get sorted and back on my feet very soon.

I know Very and Littlewoods have added a LOT of charges, which really bugs me :(
  • Several of your debts are relatively small, is there anything you could sell on Fleabay/ do overtime etc to get the dog off your back? :)
