Well, he could write something along the lines of -
Whilst I have thoroughly enjoyed working for the Company, the experience and knowledge I have gained here has enabled me to realise my dream of going into business for myself and being self-employed. It is with some sadness that I must tender my resignation so that I may pursue my future on my own. With grateful thanks for the opportunities that you have put my way and with very best wishes for the future success of your Company and of mine.
It would be best to "butter" the Company up a little, just in case he needs them for a reference somewhere down the line. Always best to leave on good terms, I feel, even if the Company have been real so-and-so's with him.
Hope this helps!0 -
great. actually he's leaving on a good note and his manager said , it would be sad to see him go anf there will be a job back there if things don't work out.
thanks again:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling0 -
I'm suspicious of his managers motive asking not simply for a resignation letter but for confirmation your're husband is "going to work for himself". Could this prompt the employer into attempting to restrict your husbands new enterprise by claiming he's now a competitor and holds confidential knowledge etc etc. Maybe nothing to get concerned about, however i'd tend to err on the side of caution here.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

Actually, by law, a resignation from employment MUST be in writing!0 -

Perhaps you should re-read my post.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
I personally wouldn't mention working for himself, I would just say something like
'Dear (Manager's name),
It is with regret that I feel the time has come to resign my post at (The Company) and I hereby tender the necessary one month's resignation commencing from (date) and will be leaving the company on (date).
I will always remember the happy years I spent working with (The Company).
Yours sincerely'
Hopefully this will suffice.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I certainly didn't initially read the OP's first post as meaning that the manager wanted it confirmed in writing that the OP's other half is going to be working for himself.
And it is the done thing to give notice in writing.
Mind you, the other thing I'm confused about is why it's the OP's problem - my DH would write his own letter, even if he asked me to look it over afterwards ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
previous company wasn't painting and decorating. totally different compnany:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling0
