Cleaning a travel cot

I have been given a travel cot by a friend. The mattress base has some stains on it and I was wondering if any of you out there have ever given a travel cot matress a serious clean. The model is a Graco compact (bright primary colours) and is in brilliant condition except these few stains (look like food). I emailed graco and they advised a sponge clean with a mild soap solution. I tried that and the stains have only slightly gone. I was thinking of leaving the mattress base to soak in some bio powder but I don't know what the solid panels in the base are made from (don't want them to disintegrate or warp).
Any help gratefully received:)

I would try treating it with a laundry stain remover then, if that doesn't get rid of it, use a foam carpet cleaner. Make sure you don't overwet it. Put it outside to dry if the weather allows it.
If the stain has been there for a while though, it could be that nothing will completely get rid of it now, but bear in mind that if the mattress is covered with a sheet, the only person who knows it is there is you
A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0
