Shop Direct/Lowell

My husband had a Very account which has run up a debt of over £5000. We had a letter/statement NDR a month ago stating we owed £5078.23. My husband was made redundant at the end of Feb and I'm currently off sick so I wrote to them offering a token payment but at the weekend we received a letter from Shop Direct saying that they had passed out account over to Lowell, there was a letter from this company inside the same envelope. The amount has now gone up to £5781, it says it was passed to them a week before we wrote asking them to accept a token payment. It states that the account was opened in 2003. Don't know where we go from here. can anybody help

First I would write to Lowell asking for a copy of the shop direct agreement and a statement of account, plus details of any (invalid) charges that have been added on.

I won't say it hasn't happened with Lowells, but it's not something to be overly concerned about.
However, all the more reason to check out the agreement and charges that have been lumped on. If they should attempt any funny business, then it could well give you better ammo to fight back.
Or in the normal course of events, force Lowells to play nicer.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
