Documents - proof of agreed mortgage

Hi All
We have a mortgage approved in principle and have just made an offer on a house. The estate agent refused to take it off the market until we prove that we have a mortgage agreed.
I am going to take a copy of the agreement document in tonight but they are insisting it isn't enough and I have to meet with their mortgage man and show id, 3 months payslips, utility bill etc. I have told them on several occassions I am happy with the mortgage we have (went to an independent broker) and do not want any more credit searches, as it's a 95% mortgage and these are hard to come by!
Is this normal or should they accept the agreement letter without supporting paperwork?
Thanks

Nothing better than an an early morning rant about Estate Agents.
Taken them nothing apart from your Agreement In Principle, if you need any support your IFA will happily call them - well I always enjoy it..
They are chancing their arm and your IFA has done a good job indeed securing a 95% mortgage. Be interested which lender you have had success with at 95%?
Tell you Estate Agent that if they do not remove from market and accept your offer, you will go and knock on the vendors door and tell them that they are in breach of their contract.
Its again a poor show from the agent, assuming you are a first time buyer and they think they can muscle in - poor indeed...
They will hide behind protecting their vendor, but if you have an AIP and schedule a valuation fairly soon there is nothing they can do..
Shout if you need anything...I am a Mortgage Broker

Thanks!
This estate agent has been pushy the whole way along. I will be lodging a complaint about them once the deal is done. When I called to enquire about the property and they tried to push me into their £1000 buyers incentive and seeing their mortgage guy, I refused and he said well then you will be paying full asking prices for all their properties! I replied that they weren't doing a good service for their clients then so he laughed it off as if he made a joke... honestly if I was a naive person I would have believed them and made an appointment!
Our mortgage is with Skipton0 -
I had a similar experience with a large well known estate agent chain in London. They were pushy the whole way, kept trying to get me to use their conveyancers, their mortgage advisors etc. After the sale was agreed, they hid behind the vendor (a 70yr old lady who had no clue) and refused to take it off the market. Finally I had to walk away from the purchase. The moment I said that, they backed down and offered to do a whole host of things
My suggestion would be to call their bluff - they will back down once they see that they could lose you. And as always, be prepared to walk away for real.
May I ask if this EA/property is in Shepherds Bush? I know who the chain is since you have mentioned the £1000 buyers incentive. By the way that is a joke - there is no incentive.0 -
No, it is based in Sussex, but I get the impression the whole chain is pushy. My mortgage advisor told me when I saw him this particular company would be really pushy if we bought from them!
Am looking forward to writing my complaint letter about them0
