Applying for jobs months before you can actually start?

I've found a job as a Personal Asisstant, earning £16,000 a year more than what I'm on now.

I've read through the job advert and person spec again and again, and I have all of the experience and qualities they ask for. I currently work as an Admin Assistant which I quite enjoy, and I'm looking to progress. I wouldn't be able to start though until around June time, as my NVQ Level 3 won't be finished until around then - although I might try and push my assessor to give me more tasks to do in order to be able to finish it earlier :p

I REALLY want to apply for this job!! But worried that due to my NVQ not finishing for another 3 months or so, they will hire someone who can start after giving the usual week or month's notice :(

Do you guys reckon it will be worth applying for??

    You haven't, you've noticed a vacancy.

Is possession of NVQ III essential or desirable?

Why not apply on the basis of if appointed you will gain the qualification/ cert?

It says nothing on there about any sort of NVQ or qalifications, but I've been doing the NVQ since November 2011 with the agreed finishing date of June 2012

I think I'll just go for it..like you all say, the worst they can do is say no!

Well it can take about a month for them to go through receiving applications, having interviews and making a decision. By then you will be closer to two months. Some people have to give three months notice at their current job, and if you can negotiate to get your qualification completed quicker you might be OK.

    Stop jumping ahead steps.

    1. Apply for the Job

    2. If you are offered it decide if you want it

    3. if you are offered and accept the job, decide what to do about your NVQ - maybe you can complete with your new employer?

    Simples!
