Just debt-free: cheque book current account?

Are there any banks - other than CoOp, FirstDirect or Nationwide - which give a bank account WITH a cheque book when you're still in the "six year" period between repaying debts and these 'Settled' and 'Satisfactory' accounts falling off your credit history? (in 1 and 4 years time). I've successfully kept my Basic Account in order for the past 6.5 years (CoOp)... but would like to get a cheque book now that I'm out of debt.... and the CoOp are sticking to the 6 year rule.

TBH it's practically impossible to find anywhere that even takes cheques anymore - I think probably down to the fact that most banks have withdrawn the cheque guarantee bit on the cards.

What are you intending using them for?

I want to have a cheque facility so that I can:
1. Send cheques in greetings cards, for Xmas and birthdays.
2. Pay my local council for my allotment annual fee (town council office is not open when I'm around, to go in and pay with cash).
3. Pay my subs to my allotment association.

Ok, so only maybe c.20 cheques per year, but even after nearly 7 years living with just a debit card and a prepay "credit" card, I find it frustrating.
