Hi all
The story is this: I used to work for a international company in a specialised role, earning @£20k. I left for various reasons last year, ended up working for the NHS band 1, but good weekend pay. I've just been offered a 6 month role back in my specialist sector for @£17k annum. Being back in the industry would help me career/CV wise, but I will lose some money in the short term and risk the role not being extended. The thing holding me back from accepting is the travelling, at present I walk therefore free. This new role will be an hour drive each way almost, hence extra expense. I live with my partner who works locally so moving for a 6 month position is not viable.
I'm in my 40s, and have had two other specialist interviews which were not successful. If I take it its a gamble regarding future, if I stay at the NHS I might look back and think if only...
Offered today and need to accept/decline by tomorrow.
Tempted to accept. Thoughts?
Thanks

From the sounds of it, you really don't feel like you can miss out on this opportunity. Have you tried asking the employer if they can budge on salary or are willing to help you out with travel expenses.
As a compromise, you could ask for an interest-free season ticket loan/mileage loan which will help you handle the expense short term while keeping your hand in at this company.
Good luck with your decision; it's better to have the option of two jobs rather than nothing at all!A caped crusader of awesome consumer justice! :cool2: :beer:0 -
Thanks Francis, you're right I do think its too good to pass up on. Its through an agency and they are unable to budge on pay sadly, already tried that.
Its looking like I'm going to accept at the moment0 -
Personally I would be very tempted to go for it as it's only an initial 6 month commitment, and although the extra travel time and costs are a pain, it will presumably be worth it if it gives you that extra bit of help when applying for similar specialist positions in the future?
And of course, the peace of mind of knowing that you gave it a go instead of looking back in the future and thinking what might have been!0
