hi all,
does anyone know exactly what employers see when they run a credit check.
i work in financial services in london and have been interviewing recently.
i was wondering what employers see as i have pretty bad credit record and need to know how much info i need to give them to explain the position.
any employers/HR gurus around??

I think it's the same as Estate Agents where they can see like CCJ's and if you've been Bankrupt and so forth.
I don't think they can see Defaults, payment history etc - I managed to pass a credit check with HSBC in beginning 2011, and with estate agents in Oct 2011 with 5 defaults on my credit file - 4 of them unsatisfied.SAVINGS: £63.86 // £3,0000 -

can i ask if it was an FSA regulated position you were in and also did you mention anything to them beforehand?
thanks so much for any info0 -
Hi Herts
The best way to answer your query is that employers will seek as much detail about your credit history as they feel is necessary to enable them to decide on your suitability for that role. As KellyKing suggests above, their focus tends to be on the really bad stuff such as CCJs and bankruptcies which indicate that your financial affairs have not just had a wobble or two, but have collapsed completely. The threshold each employer sets will be specific to them - you will not necessarily have to achieve a certain "score" as is the case when applying for credit.
Also it is worth pointing out that while all searches of your credit file are recorded, a prospective employer's search creates only a "soft" footprint. This means it will not have any effect on any subsequent credit applications you make.
The credit agencies themselves - Experian, equifax and Callcredit - should also be able to give you some general info on what employers look for.We work as money advisers for National Debtline and have specific permission from MSE to post to try to help those in debt. thanks so much for that.
i dont have any of the really bad stuff on there but i do have several defaults and a lot of credit applications in last 6 months as things got very tight around Christmas.
i'm just wondering how much of that they will see so i can explain what i need to in advance.
i dont think the employer will react well to finding this out and then coming back to me for an explanation so plan to deal with it at an appropriate time during the process.0
