I was given a offer of employment only recently after successfully passing my interviews!!
But then it got withdrawn as I failed my credit check!
I had disclosed my satisfied CCJ before the interview and told them I didnt have any unsettelled debts. They were okay with it.
But I had forgotton to mention 2 defaults which were setlled a few years back.
Now they have wrote me a letter stating , they have to withdraw the offer. I am Gutted.

This might sound totally stupid but why do you need credit checked to get a job?0 -

Hmmm i would say the same..
since when do you need to be 'credit checked' to work ?
Also if it's 2 years ago ? surely they can't judge you... people need to learn to let it go.• HSBC (Main A/C)

I have previously worked with confidential information. If someone is applying for a job where they will have access to confidential details then having bad credit means they have money problems and are considered a security risk as they could sell classified information in order to make ends meet...that sounds silly but it has happened in the past so others have set that track record. It may not be fair. Some people have bad credit through no fault of their own. However applying for a job in this economy is very competitive so employers have a large pool of applicants to deal with and sometimes use criteria like credit checks to cut it down, whether or not that is fair or tells the full story of an applicant's history.
OP I suggest you look for a job in a different field, steering away from financial services and some call centre customer service jobs where you would have access to customer's information. There are other industries where your credit history wouldn't be checked. Good luck.0 -
OP I'm so sorry hopefully something bigger and better will come along for youIt's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0

Sorry, but i wholy disagree with that, if you've been in financial trouble you're not best placed to be working in the financial sector.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -
