Medical info requested by Employer!!!!

My line manager has just rang and told me i need to sign a form allowing my employers FULL access to my medical notes from my GP!!!! I dont have any gripes with them talking to doctor and disussing why im unable to work, but there are things i DO NOT want them (or anyone in fact) to know. What do i do and where do i stand legally????? X
The feeling i got when i confirmed my place studying criminology at Exeter Uni was brilliant!!!!!

The pride my children told me they had in me was even better!!!!! # setting positive example to children is OUTSTANDING!!!! !:grouphug::grouphug::smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea

Some things are personal, I would refuse - why do they need this?

they can get this info from your doctor but they have to write to the GP and this can take time as they do not rush this out and they will have to pay. Not sure how much this is. Also when yoru GP gets the request he will call you in to see him as you will have to say it's ok and get a chance to talk to him. They can I think only talk about the reason you are not at work, not a full medical history.

Probably a misunderstanding more than anything but they can only ask about the relevent part in you not working.

As Uncertain would say Dr's can drag this out if required.

You would be wise allowing them access to the information but as said before make sure you see what the Dr writes before hand and if you disagree with any of it let them know. However you cannot write it for the Dr.

I would suspect this is the first stage in them looking at capability procedures and seeing if there is anything reasonable that they can do to get you back to work.
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

I feel like im banging my head against a wall with them though!!! this stupid ilness has cost me so much already!!! Been hoping i can go back to work, chances are i cant!!! She has made me feel like a liar if im honest. Have just rang GP, they are ringing me back. Have also rang HR, also waiting a callback. Is it worth me contacting my Union? Or am i, as usual, overreacting!!! x

OMG why contact a union? What do you have to hide? They are entitled to get medical info on you but have to ask consent. Failure to do so will casue a lot more problems I guess. Just like if you have to have a medical before you start a lot of jobs if you refuse then you do not get the job.

Because you pay your union fees to provide support and information.

gingergee should be able to get precise information from the union which she/he can work from rather than suggestions from strangers on a forum.

Think i needed to vent tbh. My company are not easy to dea with, hence me going above my branch and speaking to head office. Im more than willing to let them get whatever from my doctor, as long as its regarding why im off work! Not that i went a week last friday for pile cream or what contraception im on etc.... this is what im worried about. I have lupus nephritus !!!!!!, not exactly something i can make up!!!

Must have cross-posted! I honestly think you should not worry - they will only be able to access anything relevant to your ability to do the job. Anything released to them would be on a strict need-to-know basis - therefore there would be no need-to-know you went about contraception :)
