Maybe it is me being cynical/suspicious but there is always a need for Sunday codes because I think that people buy the Saturday paper which is cheaper and get 2 of the codes, so have one spare to swap for a Sunday and only need to buy one paper.;)

I don't think personally you are being cynical, this happens several times a weekend.

There also seems to be a higher amount of Sunday code requests than for Saturday.

Being one of those who try to swap a Saturday code for a Sunday I thought I would explain to put my reason foreward.

On a Saturday I buy 3 copies of the Mail one for myself and one each for my elderley Mother and Aunt for when I go and visit on a Saturday.

I also buy one Mail on a Sunday for myself.

Both ladies are well into their 80's and stay housebound most of the time apart from trips to the shops and enjoy receiving treats in the post such as the freebies which I manage to get sent to them when I spot them thanks to this excellent forum and it's contributers.

I use the Sat and Sun code to send my Mother a supermarket voucher which being a pensioner she uses towards her shopping.
I try to swap a Saturday one for a Sunday one so that my Aunt gets the same.

Most of the time with thanks to the kind contributers on here it works, as well as helping those that are in the opposite situation to me.

I agree Silk, people have their own buying patterns for other reasons. I can't see that anyone would buy an extra Mail on Saturday in the hope of swapping the code for a Sunday one (saving 70p but creating a whole load of hassle.)

I never miss a Mail on Sunday (unless they have sold out which happens at my Tesco after 12pm) but it is the cheaper Saturday Mails that I have missed in the past. Usually because if there is a good offer in the other papers (Express,Sun,Star) I think to myself....I will not get a Mail "this" Saturday and just miss 1 code out of 8. I never have time to read ANY paper on a Saturday anyway :p

Of course I often get my calculations wrong and end up with a silver award but other times I am lucky and have got a spare code here to keep a gold award on track.
(Quoia deserves a special mention here  !)

I have been able to give the odd spare code back when I have bought multiple copies of the Mail myself (for offers or coupons) and that is what it boils down to really - helping each other out. People will have many different reasons for ending up needing a Saturday or a Sunday code and it is best when this thread gets back to being the "mutual help brigade" which is how it must have started in the first place ;)

Of course, but there is nothing wrong with discussing possible or probable abuses either, several varities of which have emerged since this thread started.

In an ideal world it would be a mutual help topic, however as with anything in life there are some who can and do abuse these things.

    :)

I must admit this isn't always a "happy" thread - I am glad of the weeks I don't visit it.

The one thing I have never been able to understand is people not thanking others who have given them a code. Surely everybody who has got a code in a private message or from the public board should at least hit the thanks button and even post a quick message of gratitude. Plenty do of course, but there are other codes that are posted that get no thanks.

I can see that codes are worth 50p to 72p a pop - or slightly more for the Pizza Express ones (but even then there are always 2 for 1 deals or 4 x Tesco Rewards so again we are talking a "price" of, say, £1 a code).

For me that means they are certainly worthy of a thanks for those that supply them. But I would think (hope) that only a small minority would go to any kind of cunning to get something of so little cash value week in, week out. And (apart from ringing The Mail to say there was no card) I still cannot work out how they would do that anyway.

Perhaps we are attaching too much importance to these codes. I have been guilty of this myself ! I recently tried to use a £5 Tesco Reward card and discovered it had expired i.e. set to zero. Of course the Mail/Tesco know people's inertia (including mine) will allow this to happen. I was initially annoyed with them and then I realised that it is "only" a reward scheme and at the end of the day it was my fault for having it in my purse so long when I could easily have used it :( I had only myself to blame.

At least I won't let that happen again :)
