Open bank account while living abroad

Can anyone tell me how I can open a bank account from living abroad? I've been living abroad since 1990 and my bank account was closed a few years ago. I now have a private pension due, and they want to know where to put the money into. I want to open an account in the UK, but I'm having great problems doing so, as I need to give them an address, which I don't have, unless I lie and give them my mother's. Any expats out there that can tell me what to do?
