Open University

Hello!

I'm going to be starting LB160 - Professional Communciation Skills with the Open University in May, and I've just received an email stating that my financial support appliacation for the course has been accepted, and I'll get all of the £480 paid for :j

I'm hoping to go on to complete a Business degree with them, to hopefully help me in my career (I'm currently an Admin Assistant, but I want to progress). I might eventually study a PGCE to become a teacher once I've gained a lot of work experience

Has anyone had any experiences of studying with the Open University, good or bad?

  • The O.U is supposed to be very good from what I have heard. When I was at University we had this tutor who previously taught for the O.U and she said the standard of our work was much lower which went down well!
Also a few years ago I was going out with a girl who was doing an O.U degree in Trade Union studies and kept having to go to summer schools in wierd locations.
Overall, their degrees are very well thought of and they have a good reputation. They are not seen as being second best.

I'm on my third OU course; it's outstanding. I've had great tutors, the materials are fantastic (and very professional) and you can get a lot of support if you need it. The expectations tend to be higher than at traditional universities (and yes, I've been to both!), and they have an excellent reputation.

    Enjoy!

I'm completing a degree with them and have 2 year left. Thankfully you go in before the prices go up.

Good luck with the rest of your degree. Yeah definately, I wouldn't have bothered registering/applying if I had to get the studen loan, so I'm glad it's all sorted now

The OU are fantastic and most modules have a Facebook group for support too. :) I'm doing AA100 - The Arts Past and Present and the course materials are very professional and my tutor is fantastic.

Maybe harder than some universities! OU has an incredible reputation for quality - people will take an OU degree seriously
