Some advice please

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or views on my visit to the bank today. Not sure if this is the right place to be posting this, but seeing from other posts your a nice bunch and wont be quick to judge.

Basically my finances are shot to pieces. I've always been bad with money, i have one CCJ that was paid off 4 years ago, i have a few outstanding debts that i have defaulted on around £600.00 all together i would think. I do pay my car loan every month at £157.57 every month for the past 2 years.

I am currently working it all out to pay with my gran's help (love her) and paying off small amonths to get debts down untill ive enough spare cash to pay them all off in one hit.

The thing is i seem to forever be over my overdraft limit of £100.00 due to bank charges coming out and me not knowing/forgetting about them. I'm normally 30.oo over my overdraft each month.

Well to top it all off, my company mucked my wages up this month to £575.57!! I'm nearly £300.00 short. I dont earn a massive wage as working in Education as Admin. So i called pay roll and they told me there was nothing they can do till NEXT pay day!

I wont live on this for the month, so i called my bank asking if i could talk to someone about a short term extension on my overdraft.

9.30am this morning ive gone down there, explained the suituation and my credit is poor, but offered to repay loaned money back on next payday, they would take it straight out of my wages. I told her main reason i go over my overdraft is because of bank charges and she basically said this "the bank doesnt like hearing things that, it doesnt like people taking the !!!!" her words! adn then told me there was nothing they could do for me and all direct debts will come out and bounce! hence manking me more in debt. She knows my situation and that im trying to sort it!

I've just moved in with my boyfriend too, so now can't afford anything as months wages are all gone!

Is it just me or do you think she was wrong to try and not to help me? I do hope ive written makes sense to people. I just feel really let down by my bank and the way the woman was with me.

When i was with NatWest and had problems happened with my wages from past employers, they'd always helped me out and because it wsa their money it went straight back from the date i get paid.

  • My first port of call would be to your Boss on Monday morning. If payroll cannot sort out your wages before next month then they should at least be able to give you a 'sub' until then.
Post a SOA (Statement of Affairs) showing Income and Expenditure followed by your other debts - amounts, payments etc and you will receive all the help you need.

You should really think about opening a new account with another bank in time for your next payday and then start claiming your charges back. There's loads of info about how to do that elsewhere on this site. You can go back 6 years, so should give you a tidy sum. If your work won't or can't help you with a sub, are you in a union? They often have benevolent or hardship funds which could help you out in the short term.

alot of people are joining citibank look on the current accounts board they will be able to help you with a good current account ...good luck getting it all fixed...i would deff claim back my charges if for no other reason than to wipe the smug smile of the b1tches face
  • Hey Elliebell
If your company has made you go overdrawn and you have incurred charges from your bank your company is the one liable for the charges......so claim them back from your company.....politely of course
Your copmany is also breaking the law by not paying you the correct amount and rest assured they can do something about it and if you insist ...politely again I am sure they will sort you out immediately.
Re the rude woman on the phone at your bank......if anyone talks to you like this for any company whatsoever keep your cool and ask to be put thro to a senior supervisor always works
  • well i've spoken to Pay roll and they have assured me there is nothing that can be done till the next BACS run, so i now have to wait till the 25th of next month.

Lucky i called my finance company who i have the loan with for my car and they have wavied this months pay with no come backs at all on me. Pnly problem is now, insurance hasn't been covered with what was left of my wages and £45.00 debt that i have been paying off for 2 months hasnt been paid.

So because of my banks 'lack' of help, i now have had two letters telling me im overdrawn at £30.00 each, insurance said i have to pay asap, so means borrowing £60.00 from my gran which i really don't want to do, £30.00 charge on exsiting debt which i've been trying to pay off. Another letter came today from the bank telling me i'm overdrawn, yay another £30.00 charge and then on the 7th of this month charges will be coming out from last month.

I feel i'm ina no win battle here.

So due to the very rude bank woman and lack of help from them, my finances are getting worse instead of better!

I need some help! I don't know what opinions i have now as i dont want to have to take a loan out to cover all of this because the interest rate will be mega due to my bad credit rating which i was battling with, now it feel like there is no point!

    ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Can anyone help me see a light at the end of a massive tunnel???

Take copies of the charge letters, and write to your HR department enclosing these copies, cc in your boss too. Ask that these charges be refunded as extra to your next months pay as they have been incurrred due to their error.

If they can't give you any money, then you shouldn't financially suffer for it.

With that attitude perhaps you don't just need a new bank, but a new job?!
