What to do when HMRC says you owe tax?

This week I received a letter from HMRC saying that last year, I owe them more than £ 600 . Is there anything I can do, or do I have to pay them now? This is the first time I received a letter like this, so I am confused. FYI, I am an office professional working for a media company. Thank you.

I have a recent thread on this board of a similar situation to TadleyBaggie where they guessed the interest I earned and assumed I owed them £900, turns out they'll probably end up paying me 1k+ which I wouldn't have known if they'd kept their grabbing noses out.

• The rich buy assets.
• The poor only have expenses.
• The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.
