  • I suppose then the main question is how do you survive off £200 a month with a 2 year old and also i need to find a landlord that will except housing benefit. and i need to let my lettings agency know if im renewing my contract in 2 weeks. I want to move to be nearer to my bf and to get a way from this area.

OK ..... please do the SOA as it will help us give advice - you need to calculate your income on a monthly basis so add up all your benefits over the year and your salary and then divide the total by 12.

Take all your bills / food / other outgoings / debts etc and do the same and then use these figures for the SOA.

For help with managing on £200 / month - which with 1 adult, 1 child & 1 baby, should be fine - pop over to the Old Style Board and join the Grocery Challenge. Great bunch of people with loads of tips and some fantastic recipes.

I am confused where the £1600 figure for the move comes from - can you clarify exactly what this is made up of? We might be able to come up with suggestions to reduce this too.

Am pretty sure that it is in law that after a fixed term tenancy has run out it will go onto a rolling tenancy. The fact that the letting agents won't like it because they won't be able to charge you a nice big fat fee for printing a few bits of paper and the landlord may or may not be keen as they may want the certainty of a tenant for a fixed period. It doesn't mean that they can override the law though. They will just try and put as much pressure on you as possible. Seriously if you head over to the housing board on here they will tell you exactly what the law is and what you can do about it. They may also have useful suggestion re funding moving costs etc. In terms of getting a loan - credit unions normally help people within a local area or in a certain job. They often have different criteria to banks and try and help people who the banks can't/won't. It's worth a try anyway - the worst they can say is no.

They can't make you sign another contract. They can send you a bill which you can refuse to pay. They aren't going to take you to court because they know they will be on a hiding to nothing. You can always phone Shelter for advice.

You will also need a months rent up front possibly? (not sure how this work with HB) of 800 plus moving costs as well :(
I would phone Shelter for help and advice. Your best option looks like staying put for a bit and trying to save up to move but it doesn't mean you have to pay the new contract fee.
