Wedding flowers panic

I decided to go for artificial flowers, a)because it was cheaper, b)I could keep them and c) I suffer from hayfever so would have to dose myself up on antihistamines or I would be sneezing all over the place.

The bouquet I bought is exactly the style of bouquet I had pictured in my mind - a posy of cream roses and cream orchids, that look more like a little bunch of wild flowers I had just freshly picked, than an overly fussy wedding bouquet. (I know these aren't classed as 'wild' flowers, but you know what I mean hopefully). The green stems are quite long and visible but again I liked this as it looks totally natural which is the look I was going for.

My dress is ivory, and now I'm thinking that because the 'bouquet' is all cream, is it going to be 'lost' against my dress in the photo's? My sister has suggested buying a few coloured flowers and adding them in just to give it a bit of colour (which is a great idea) but I am loathe to do this - I think cream flowers are so beautiful and elegant, and for me to add in coloured flowers is just going to ruin the look of the bouquet for me.

So given that I really want to keep my bouquet exclusively cream, I am just wondering if it is going to look really bad in the photos. Any thoughts?

The best way to tell will probably be to hold it against the dress and see how it stands out. If it does look a bit lost, what about tying some coloured ribbon around the stems? It doesn't have to cover them but will provide a bit of a 'pop' of colour.

Hi, I'm making my bouquet from fresh flowers, but they will be white. To make them stand out I am incorperating lime green berries and will but a dark green 'collar' of leaves. You could easily add fake foliage around the edges.

  • I think the first thing to do is try it against your dress, take some photos and see how it looks.

If it does look lost could you get some large green leaves, fold them in half and then use them to frame the bouquet, something like this (hopefully this link works):

im having orcids and rose (white) and a white dress. i was worried about the same so having some folage(correct word?...greenery!) throughout the bouquet and i've picked the white orcids with a hint of pink in the centre. my bridesmaid is in charcole so there wasnt really a colour i could add.
  • Adding some foliage rather than a colour sounds like the way to go!! :j

    Thanx everyone!

Add some foilage round the outside, It doesn't need to blanket the outside ,but could be kept loose(sparce, a collar may take away the look you want and make it more formal, ) and will give it just enough colour against the dress.

You could try your flowers against real foilage and see if it gives a nice look, also a wee bit of leaf shine makes real foilage have a nice look(as long as its not matt leaves)

Hi, towards the bottom of this pin board there are loads of white bouquets which could help you. Also, have you considered using a material collar in a colour? Ie wrapping some sort of chiffon around the bouquet to fram it. That would work if you are not sure which leaves to go for.

Don't forget that foliage will not only bluk out your flowers but they come in a varity of greens and will help the flowers from getting lost

Hand wrap it in ribbon to match your colours? Then the stem will stand out and so the flowers should too?
