Abuse of Power?

My situation is this: my boss has recently started acting in a very two faced way by singling me out with negative behaviour towards me and also going against agreements made on tasks etc while giving a vastly more positive impression towards others and among senior management.

This week my boss took it a step further and started making a big issue out of very small/non-existent matters by ensuring that others sitting around me could hear the criticisms being made, and hence painting me in a bad light.

Do I have a case to go to HR and report this as abuse of power, or even bullying?

    Personally I would ask for a quiet word with your boss and explain how you feel.

    Explain that it would be easier all round of agreements on tasks etc were made in writing.

    If things don't improve though definitely take it up with HR

    Start to take notes of exactly what is wrong in a diary.

    Date/time and try to write down in as much detail as you can recall these events.

    The reason is that this will be useful if you decide to make a claim.

    Feeling ridiculed in front of other members of staff by a manager could be viewed as bullying.

    The way you deal with it could range from informal talk to as far as raising an official grievance.

    It is not possible to guage which would work best from not knowing more about the situation, but starting a diary is something that cant do any harm and could end up being very useful.

    I agree with the others, but I would add one thing - if this is very recent behaviour and it hasn't been like this before, what changed? It might be him, but are you absolutely sure that it isn't you? Because what might be a small thing as far as you are concerned might not be a small thing as far as he / the employer is concerned.
