whats wrong with good old fashioned bangers and mash, beans on toast, fish fingers and chips, roast chicken with veg and roast potatoes, pizza is easy to make as is many past dishes-some mentioned in previous post.
chops chips and spaghetti was my boys favourite, don't always need fancy food and trust me many supermarket own brands are good value.so look at cereal or toast and jam for brekki, maybe boiled egg and soldiers, lunch a sarnie-cheese or ham, evening meal as said above, and possible snacks of yoghurt, fruit or bag of baked crisp.goodluck.

Just noticed Gibson123's advice about putting food on table and letting everyone help themselves. If I am having a crowd around for Sunday dinner I always do this. If you dish up their food for them you put lots on the plate and some of it they aren't gonna eat. I always find I use less food this way.

Just made me have a lightbulb moment - why don't I do this all the time:rotfl:

I am so sick of the "healthy" police, now we are being told that 5 a day is bad for kids teeth, as there is too much food acid.
I am so annoyed by the articles going round on this!! It's so misleading. The problem is people giving their kids 5 servings of fruit juice/smoothies and sugary fruit a day, that's what's bad for their teeth. It should be fruit and veg, with more veg than fruit being best. Vegetables won't do your teeth harm and they are often much cheaper too.
A banana or glass of smoothie(if you make your own you can easily hide vegetables in them) at breakfast breakfast, carrot sticks and salad on a sandwich at lunch, a snack of fruit or veg, 2-3 servings of veg with dinner. It's very doable.

OP I would definitely start growing your own, if you have indoor space then often expensive things like salad leaves are easily grown on a window sil. I can understand opting for organic fruit and veg that will be eaten raw and dairy, but otherwise it will do no harm to be none organic. If you look up normal vs organic you will find for some foods that there aren't as many pesticides, nasties etc used on non-organic as you would think.

You've got three kids under five at home: no wonder you're frazzled. And it's possibly the food that's focus but not necessarily the real issue. If the kids won't eat what you're serving offer them Marmite on bread or toast and an apple. Next meal-time round they should eat whatever you put in front of them. I would also warn you against pandering to fads as that just encourages them to think up more complicated and even more inconvenient ones. Give them some choice but not absolute control.

    Hi,

I think every parent worries about what they are feeding their kids at some stage or other. I do think yours are at a crucial age to get them eating as many different things as possible. I was always determined not to go down the road of having different meals for different people and have managed to stick to this.

You have to hide any concerns about them not eating or not liking things. Toddlers will quickly turn food into a way of getting attention.

As for what to feed them, we have worked out a good range of traditional meals that everyone likes, things like casseroles, pies, spag bol, homemade pizza, curries etc. My kids are 11 and 13 now and I am proud of how unfussy they have turned out.

I cant afford organic by the way so dont worry about it!
  • You sound like you are doing a fantastic job with three children so young, so please don't beat yourself up about it! They are obviously well loved and everyone has had children who are triers! They are all very good at knowing when mum is anxious about something.
if they eat pasta and sauce, you can hide a multitude of veg all blitzed in the sauce. Maybe cut down on the organic, but have a few bits each week. If you can grow your own, then do so, it really encourages children to eat different things if they have helped grow it.
Please don't listen to other mums if they go on about how fantastic it is to always cook organic and how they feed 17 of their family on £25 a week, it's all lies, and they are probably in macdonalds at least twice a week and have credit card bills that would make your hair stand on end!:rotfl:
Good luck with your shopping budget, and keep us posted x
