ARC Debt Management - F&F settlement paid 12 months ago now they want more

I'm hoping someone can help. I sold my property last year to pay of my debt. Most of them were paid with a reduced F&F settlement.
Now I'm being contact by this company asking for more. I told them it was settled but they are asking me to prove it... and guess what, they never confirmed the settlement in writing.
Where do I stand?
Also, I spoke to Egg who the debt was with and they say the account is closed.

Who did you settle the account with at the time? Egg? A debt collector? If a debt collector, were they acting for Egg or had they bought the debt off Egg?
Could "closed" with Egg either because you paid it off, or because they closed the account on their books by selling it on.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Not entirely clear what was never confirmed. The fact of the reciept of the money or that a certain amount of money would be accepted as F&F? This makes a big difference.farmyard80 wrote: »... and guess what, they never confirmed the settlement in writing.

I'm really not sure if they boughtthe debt off Egg. I think they might have done but I don't know for certain.
When I say they didn't confirm in writting, they didn't confirm the receipt of the money nor that it was settled. I have bank statements confirming the payment.
Another thing to add is that I called them and they told me one amount, then I received a letter with an amount x10 what they originally talked of.
I really think they are trying it on, but what can I do?0 -
If you have it in writing that they would accept an amount as F&F - and you paid that amount, then you are home and dry. But if they just told you on the phone what they would accept and you paid it without waiting for them to confirm in writing, then you have let yourself be mugged.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
