    Also, some AVC schemes have terrible performance! They know most investors are "sitting ducks" so have no incentive to beat the market.

  • Any opinions on Clerical Medical and Clerical Medical Blackrock funds?
    This is who we'd have to put the AVC's into, though there are seven different funds with varying risk attached.

    If these aren't well thought of, we might go for a private pension.

    AVCs are really obsolete unless they give the opportunity to take the tax-free lump sum from the AVC pot as I explained earlier. Have you been able to check this out yet?

    Seven funds isn't a great deal of choice but it depends on those funds and charges.

    You might be better asking about this on the Pensions board where you should get some more help.

    The joy of using the company scheme is that it can he hassle free. The deduction from pay is made tax free and only what is left goes through the PAYE tax deduction process.
