Costs in renting...

Hi everyone, so me and a friend are considering moving into a house/flat share and I just want to know what things there are to pay. I'd appreciate any advice! I'm only looking at costs associated to JUST the flat, not food or anything as we're looking at setting up a joint account for all the flat related bills to come out of.

You'll need a deposit - usually 6 weeks' rent, and the rent will also usually be payable a month in advance. Most tenancies are on an annual shorthold basis, so you'll be expected to pay about £60-70 agents' expenses for the inital tenancy, and each time it is renewed. You will also each be credit checked before a tenancy is considered, which will cost you around another £60 each at the outset.

A thing to remember when you are setting up joint expenses is that you will be jointly and severally liable, so if your friend doesn't pay their share, or does a runner owing money, you will be liable for everything (and vice versa, of course).
