Sorry if this is in the wrong thread.
I have been looking on a website called DHGate as my mum wants to buy an outfit.
Is this a scam site? Is the site any good? Has anyone brought from this site before and could shed some light on what the website is?
Thank you for your help

The following might help you decide.

It's a Chinese website. That means:
1. Anything that has a brand name will be counterfeit.
2. If they send you anything, and if the comments on Web of Trust are anything to go be they probably won't, you'll have to pay 20% VAT and the £8 Royal Mail administration as well as possibly import duty on top of what you've already shelled out.

Apparently, some users of HotUKDeals have used this website with some success, though as Coopdivi has pointed out, the goods DHGate sell appear to be counterfeit.
The impression I was getting was DHGate might be something like DealExtreme though DealExtreme (which is based in Hong Kong) appears more reliable and doesn’t actually sell counterfeit goods as such as the goods they sell are mainly compatibles e.g. cameras accessories. DealExtreme also don’t appear to make false claims about the stuff they are selling either i.e. they don’t sell stuff under the pretence that they are branded goods, Apple iPhones for example.
And after reading some of the comments on PayPal Community, DHGate does appear somewhat dodgy.
Incidentally, if you buy fake goods from abroad online, customs may confiscate them when they arrive in the UK. So you will also end up losing the goods you’ve purchased, and you may even lose the money you’ve paid as well. So beware, and I would also imagine it would be wise to steer clear of DHGate.

I've used this site several times and had no problems.
Only bought cheapo gadgets and ceramic knives though.
Never got charged anything once the items got to the UK (Import tax, VAT etc). So from my personal experience I can't knock it.
However, it is like eBay where DHGate is the host for private sellers so make sure you check their ratings and feedback before you dive in and make a purchase.
Any questions give me a shoutI would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!0 -
For high cost items:
DO NOT USE DHGATE UNLESS YOU WANT TO POSSIBLY LOSE YOUR MONEY.
Use dealextreme or alibaba instead.
Just google dhgate scams before you buy anything.
You have to pay for faulty return shipping and they can never seem to answer the questions you ask.
They drag the refund process out for so long you get fed up of writing return messages.
PayPal is no longer used on the site - Guess why?
I bought an HD CRE projector from them which had four major faults, fingerprints and scratches all over, large particles in the sealed lense system no audio on the left channel, the list goes on. The DHGATE seller blamed CRE, the manufacturer for the appalling quality. then they wanted me to take the unit apart and fix it myself - they even had pictures how to do it.
When they get the returned item, it is either ok no fault found or they say they had to pay an extortionate customs fee which they try to deduct from your refund.
Be warned - not worth the hassle.
