I wanted them to help me with my job, not pay me off. I was really surprised that the next step from the discussion about adjustments - which they wouldn't make - was the suggestion of being paid off. It seemed pretty extreme.

The job is just an office job - nothing special. But it's been very stressful due to having to cover bit of other jobs as well as my own.

I'm seriously considering taking the cash. Just wanted to know if what was going on was normal and legal as it's a major decision.

What other adjustments have you suggested because originally you only put one down and if you are covering other areas how would you do that from home?

Did occ health suggest which adjustments may be a way forward and was this included in their report to management.

Were you copied in on the report?

Sometimes there just aren't adjustments that can be made. Most office jobs you cannot do from home as the paperwork (or the people) you need to deal with are at the office and can't be moved/delayed that much.

If you are also covering 'bits' of other jobs then that sounds like it isn't a strictly planned thing and therefore you also need to be in the office to pick up that work when it comes up.

Ultimately if they can't make suitable adjustments to the role they are allowed to follow procedures to remove you from the position. Voluntary redundancy sounds more sympathetic to you than sacking you for capability reasons and can be mitigated more on your CV when you are looking for new work.

What is it about this job that is particularly stressfull.

you need to identify the actual issues

    too much work,
    impossible deadlines
Things you can do due to lack of training
    hours
    etc.

What will working from home change?
