You need to look for the bit regarding adverse credit.
To be honest a £25 default is pretty low in the grand scheme of things.

Most will say no defaults over £xxx recorded in the last xx months. Some will also say defaults must have been satisfied for atleast xx months.

Thats the info you need to look for and ensure you meet. It was a small default and a long time ago, i would think most lenders will look to accept you but its still worth just double checking before you make an application.

  • Were you not paying by direct debit ? I didn't think you could have a contract any other way ? If you were then perhaps they could have simply taken the money from your account.

Why no forwarding of mail ?

To an observer, it looks like a GAIN issue, you've simply gone away, potentially closed the bank account they had to take debits from and walked away from the debt. It seems less sinister but it appears like that.

Pay it off, put a notice of correction on your file and make sure that you don't apply for credit unless you can talk to a human who can understand the issue.
