    Hi Snailmail,

I've had an IF account for just this purpose for some time now (more than two years anyway). It doesn't have the highest interest but, while acknowledging opinions4u question, i find the separately named 'jars' a great help. I currently have 11 jars within the account but just the one log on and everything is there for me. I also fund each jar separately with standing orders to each jar every month. And those standing orders are sent from two different current accounts too.

It just suits the way my brain works and I get interest (not as much as I could with other accounts granted) on top. They've recently introduced faster payments in and out of the accounts which has really speeded up the transfer of funds from when it was just BACS (free but 3 days to get to current account) or CHAPS (faster but incurred a fee).

If you're not too concerned about having the highest interest rates and you 'need' separate pots then this will suit you. Just go to IF.com and have a look. Oh, make sure you go with the Intelligent Finance i-saver as the interest on the Direct Access is pants!

    Hope that helps,
    Spigs

We use a Nationwide Online eSaver account for this, might be worth checking out. Previously used an IF account for the same thing. You can also do this with some of the home finance packages such as iBank.

eSavers @ IF.COM pay about 2.49% which isn't too bad actually.

Thank you everyone for your help! i'm just going to look at IF but i think this seems to do what I'm looking for.

I really don't want to open another account just in case I get myself into trouble some way. i figured if it's purely savers then I can't ask for an overdraft, I can't be given one and I won't just spend what i put into it!

i actually sent off to open a barclays basic account to do this, then got scared they'd secretly give me an overdraft even when i said no, so i didn't open one in the end!

I find spreadsheets really difficult as I have dyscalculia and get quite confused with them! i also want just the one savers account so I can see all the pots in one place easily...I know if it's not easy then I'm more likely to not do it!

    but IF sound really good!

thanks again to everyone who replied!
