Travelling for employer.

Does anybody know....

Can my company ask me to work at another place within the company 77 miles away from my home using my own vehicle, as I am the only qualified person to do so?

My contract does say a certain amout of work on other sites if required, but surely traveling 77 miles (2 hours) is ridiculous.

I think the short answer is 'yes' they can.

Is this peramanent, or a temporary thing? If temporary you'll need to check your car insurance covers you for business use, as you won't be going to your normal place of work, so it won't be classed as commuting. Your yearly mileage will also increase and your insurer will need to know that.

I hope they pay you expenses!

I start work at 7am and finish at 5pm, it would mean getting up in the morning at 4.30am and getting home at 7pm. They pay 45p a mile, and overtime over 1/2 hour traveling. Still, I have a life, and doing this I wouldn't.
