Applications where you don't hear anything?

How common is this? You see a job, apply, you don't hear anything, not even a rejection letter.

I've 2 jobs I applied for back at the end of January, I didn't make the interview stage in fact I never heard anything, is this the new way they are doing it?

Welcome to the world of job-hunting.

Since October I've been applying for 3-6 jobs per week.

I've had 3 rejection emails, 1 rejection letter and 1 interview.

There isn't a word strong enough to describe how I feel.

Wow.. That is harsh, I can kind of relate though.

very common. I probably have only a 2% rate of return emails if that.

I have recently applied for about 15 jobs and had 2 interviews from them and before applied for about 45 and never heard anything, but one of my recent interviews was for a job i applied for in december.

I would say just because there hasn't been any contact since applying doesn't necessarily mean your application has been disregarded.

How long does it take to send a rejection email? The wording is probably saved in a word document and only needs copying and pasting into the body of the email. Probably takes less time to reply than it took me to write this reply. BCC if upsetting many applicants, a bit impersonal but at least you now where you stand.
Give them 10 days then phone and ask for feedback on the interview or application process to improve your chances next time.

Want to bet? I bet in most cases they haven't even read them all. I chased one up recently where they told me about 60 had gone in the Spam box and the ones they did get they only read about 20% (cv only, not the cover letter) and then made a short list. My application and my follow up were some of the ones that ended up in the Spam box :(

It is time to make soliciting for written job applications for sifting unlawful. As usual, those in charge of such processes in the UK have learned to take all the shortcuts necessary to expend the least effort and cost on it with no thought of morality or dignity for applicants or the well-being of their workforces generally.

First no new job to anyone over 16 should pay less than £10 per hour and no less than £15 per hour if over 21. I am not joking.

Then anyone with a job to fill should either be required to fill it internally or publish a set time and location and have made all necessary arrangements to respectfully invite the first twenty in the queue who can prove a home address within a 5 mile radius to immediate interview doing the whole subjective thing properly face to face in day.

If two thousand turn up then maybe someone will have to start thinking very carefully for a change about what a proper living wage is and learn how to treat fellow humans with respect or risk having premises torn down.

Yes this would be a new way.

The old way is disgraceful. The HR and recruitment industry in the UK is a national embarassment. If you are part of it you should be ashamed.

£15 an hour, that will really happen, as much as i'd like it'll never happen.

£15 per hour? Are you serious? I was not even on that at my last job with 20 years exp! That will never happen as staff will just be made redundant and staff will be made to work harder and unpaid overtime!

5 mile radius too? you must be joking!! Not all people live in Central London and in fact travel 10-30 miles to get in to the city.

Whenever I've recruited I've always made the point of sending 'regret' emails, but I have to say it is a pain with 500 applicants - no, one doesn't take long, it's the rest of them!

However, what I think is ruder is if you never hear when you've been for an interview. This happened to me recently, I didn't really feel that it had gone well anyway, didn't get a good feeling about the job or the people, but never heard anything back at all!

I had to chase an interviewer 3 times as he told me I was the first one he was seeing and he hadn't looked at any other cv but would do over the next few weeks and could I give him some time and he would be in touch. 2 weeks later I emailed him and he was on holiday so a week later I did the same and no reply this time then again 4 weeks later and he then said 'oh I was just going to email you blah blah...'
