    Don't fret, he has probably got strong street lighting or a gas oven...:rotfl:

    You cheeky little Oscar.

    Actually an induction hob, but yes a gas oven.

    December import more like 200kWh, due to weather, and shallow off-south panels .... oh well, you can't win em all. But annual import now at about 1,600, down from 2,700 before PV. Total consumption probably about 3,000 now, as leccy hob was just before PV, and we use a little bit of leccy heating in shoulder months to avoid GCH when marginal.

    "What fun."

    What T said, probably around £1k/kWp from around 10kWp onwards.

    There was a recent thread on Navitron (I'll try to find it) but only a small system, and general basics. However, one of the installers (Gavin I think) mentioned that there are additional costs, such as greater insurance, access rules etc etc.

    Not a bad place to look/ask as you'll get advice, and the site owners themselves may be able to provide quotes - Sorry if that sounds like an advert, just a suggestion.

    Edit: here's the thread, not much use, but a start:

    You may be interested to know that as this school is not an academy or a free school it is very difficult for them to borrow money unless it is part of a PFI scheme. Capital budgets under this government are basically nil. They are currently being quoted a system that they pay for over 20 years and the all up cost is close to £90,000.

    If you want to know where the education budget is going it is disappearing down a black hole called PFI.

    Cheers, very interesting, and more than a little frightening.

    Looking at it very simply, it might not be a bad investment for an outsider, if the school can't afford it.

    Let's assume (for simplicity) £20k and 20,000kWh pa. Then at the 10 to 50 kWp FiT rate that's:

    20,000 @ 12.13p = £2,426
    *Export 10,000 @ 4.77p = £477

    So, assuming the school gets leccy for free (bit like a rent-a-roof) then income of £2,903pa or 14.5%.

    * I think export meters are only compulsory on 30kWp+ systems, but not sure if a they are also compulsory on commercial installs, where consumption may be high. Also depends on school holidays and weekends if the building is unused.

    In reality, there's probably tax, insurance, security, maintenance issues (and so on) but initially looks like a good investment ..... until some Ninja kid gets up there and dismantles half of it!

    Also there are solar schools schemes, and Abundance that raises funds (via debentures), so might be worth shopping around and seeing what's available.

    Interesting that you should mention this - I saw an article recently about investments in renewable energy that you could make that were a series of small businesses that you could invest in - there were tax breaks etc for doing it because they were small/startup businesses. Does anyone know what that article might have been, as I was interested in looking in to it a bit more...

    James

    EDIT - The tax breaks were for Enterprise Investment Scheme and Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme, but there was an article specifically dealing with investing in renewables through this scheme...

    As a suggestion to this thread; would it not be of interest to post say, end of month gas meter readings; as in units of gas meter readings: rather than using the complicated correction figure on this thread? Merely out of interest. Any thoughts..... eusa_think.gif

    I think it's a good idea. Since I had SP installed I've monitored my gas usage.

    I only use gas for CH and DHW so, during the summer months, my usage plummets.

    This year, my usage has been

    Jan = 65 cu feet

    Feb = 61 cu feet

    Mar = 49 cu feet

    April = 19 cu feet

    May = 7 cu feet

    June = 0 cu feet:T

    I am charged 3.69 per kWh and a S/C of 19.95p a day:(

    Edit. 1 cu foot = £1.16 approx

    A bit late to the party but our best June so far. 420kWh for the month which is second best month ever. Here's how June matches up to previous June outputs.
