I like that idea. I might have to do some research into how small water wheels can go! (From what I've previously read, I think even electrically small ones are physically quite big.Alnat1 said:Some kind of mini water wheel in the gutter downpipes to generate electricity maybe?4.3kW PV, 3.6kW inverter. A roof area of 100 sq metres is well above average and typical rainfall in most of UK is less than 1 metre. Absolute maximum amount of rain you might expect to fall on a single roof is therefore100 cu metres / year. Ten metres is rather higher than most gutters. Hence a generous estimate of the potential energy of a year's worth of rain dropping from gutter to ground level would be 1000 metre-tonnes (or 1 000 000 meter kilogram-force ).70sbudgie said:

An online energy conversion webpage I found at https://www.onlineconversion.com/energy.htm suggests that might yield 2.7kWh of generation (if you could find a 100% efficient turbine !) worth perhaps £1 per year.NE Derbyshire.4kWp S Facing 17.5deg slope (dormer roof).24kWh of Pylontech batteries with Lux controller BEV : Hyundai Ioniq54 -
The weather has been so bad with rain, rain (and rain), so far in Jan, that I expected awful results, but forgot just how poor E/W panels are at this time ..... so 9 days in, a remarkable 101% projection for the month.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 28kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.
