1.8 O's, what a weird July this is proving to be. But with less than a week to go, current prediction is 101%.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.

Hullo everyone (especially Martyn in Wales if I remember correctly),
I have been away for some time, but after about 8.5 years of almost trouble free generation, my inverter has gone phut today.
I have done a bit of research on the Interweb and when I have put my thoughts together, I will create my own thread on MSE forum and let you know - so you can read the details and tell me your experiences.
These would be particularly useful if you have an "Aurora" inverter.
I have already noticed adverts from those pretending to be so called experts already giving false advice and others suggesting that the solution is to junk it and buy their favourite (high margin?) replacement.
[I expect we all have had some sort of cowboy on the phone trying to offer to service and enhance out kit over the years?]
So I would value your experience and advice.
I will be back soon to add the link to this posting.

Good job the house batteries are full though. Tomorrow looks grim.

In comparison our 4.44 O's could be about 3/8 then! :*

For what it's worth John I had an Aurora 'Power One' fitted with my system in Nov 2011. It went pear shape in 2016-2017. I contacted ABB directly, gave them my Aurora details etc. and they told me that the warranty had been extended to 10 years by them! They sent there sparky out, fitted an ABB inverter FOC. Warranty is still ongoing until Nov 2021.  I think they said afterwards you can get them to supply and fit a P/E model for a very modest sum.  Worth a phone call to there Tech. Dept.

Many thanks Oscar - I wonder if you got your timing just right.
Looks like I really might have to brush up on my Italian.
[I wonder if ABB decided they had bitten off more than they could chew.- it looks a bit like a magement buy out to me to put the PV business back in Italy and allow ABB to get back to its Swedish/Swiss roots?]

Still maybe worth a phone call to ABB; warranties can be increased, but I would be surprised if they can be decreased; I remember them being very good with my problem, even paid for loss of generation from reporting the fault to when it was rectified.  Let us all know how you get on PM me if you prefer.coffeegif
2.5 kWp PV system, SSW facing, 45 Deg Roof. ABB Inverter, Monitor: 'Wattson'.
Reg. for FIT Nov 2011. "It's not what you generate; it's how you use it that matters". One very clean Vauxhall Diesel Sri, £30.00 Road Tax: B)

Definition of 'O's = kWh/kWp (kWh = your daily & accurate Generation figure) (kWp = the rated output of your PV Panels).
